Mission

Our primary focus is to engage people living with dementia or cognitive impairment in sensory creative processes. This involves conducting contemporary art workshops in settings such as residential homes, nursing homes, community centres, art spaces and day centres. We work co-creatively with participants in a way that doesn’t place emphasis on what they produce, but rather on the process of getting there.

We use the same methodology to engage other members of the community through tailoring our workshops to be accessible to those who struggle to participate in regular streams of art engagement. This could include catering for people living with mobility difficulties, families experiencing economic-struggles or children with special educational needs.

Long-term benefits for participants include an improvement in:

  • Quality of life
  • Cognitive ability and an understanding of how to stimulate their senses
  • Physical ability and dexterity
  • Self-confidence in regards to social interaction
  • Wellbeing and in turn demand on public services such as the NHS
  • Development of new neuro-pathways

While day-to-day benefits include:

  • Calmness and less agitation
  • New memories in the form of art pieces
  • Stress relief for carers and families
  • More competence at carrying out tasks
  • Expression of self-identity
  • Sense of achievement
